Tests usually done by a doctor for neuropathy

Vitamin B12 and B6 ( routine), in selected case (thiamine , E and niacin)  Thiamine deficiency, in particular, is common among people with alcoholism because they often also have poor dietary habits. Thiamine deficiency can cause a painful neuropathy of the extremities

·      Thyroid, liver and kidney functions ( thyroid peroxidase antibody)  which will suggest autoimmune disease

·      Vasculitis evaluation  ( CRP or Sed rate) .

·      Oral glucose tolerance test  or hemoglobin A1C

·      Antibodies to nerve components (.anti-MAG, anti-GM1, anti-Sulfatide,  anti-GALOP, Anti-GQ1b)

·      Antibodies related to celiac disease

·      Lyme disease , (Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies)

·      HIV/AIDS

·      Syphilis, (RPR)

·      Hepatitis C and B (Anti-HCV (antibody to HCV))

·      Not a routine test only for those exposed to Heavy metals  screen for (arsenic, lead, mercury, thallium).

·      anti-Hu ( antibody for a pure sensory neuropathy underlying malignancy)

·      SPEP (For Myeloma)

·       Only for those patients going on IVIg treatment IgA level  ( prevent anaphylaxis), IgG level, IgG subclass levels
